Position: Grant Writer

Pioneer Institute is seeking a part-time or contract grant writer to compose high-quality, compelling grant applications to state-based and national foundations to increase the Institute’s revenue.

Pioneer is an independent, non-partisan, privately funded research organization that relies solely on the support of individual, corporate, and foundation donors. As part of a five-year strategic planning effort, the Institute is looking to double its foundation-based revenue by employing a grant writer to increase its output of grant inquiries and applications, expand its pool of prospective foundations, assist with reporting, and maintain a detailed grant submission and outreach calendar.

The grant writer will work with and report directly to the Annual Fund Director, crafting standard and specific letters of inquiry, full proposals, budgets, interim and final grant reports, and other information required for foundation relations. The successful candidate will routinely collaborate with research staff to deepen their understanding of Pioneer’s mission and successfully communicate our objectives to foundations.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Write and submit letters of inquiry, introductory emails, grant proposals, and grant reports;
  • Furnish current and prospective funders with supporting documents;
  • Research and identify prospective foundations that align with Pioneer’s work and mission;
  • Help ensure compliance with award requirements;
  • Keep an up-to-date calendar and track all grant submissions, foundation outreach, reports, collateral, notes, and deadlines;
  • Develop strong working relationships with Pioneer staff and collaborate with key stakeholders;
  • Maintain knowledge of Pioneer’s history and current programs.
