About the Role
The Outreach Manager will play a pivotal role in advancing our mission by connecting with potential stakeholders across the Northeast to bring Pioneer’s message to wider audiences while also gathering insights and impact stories from these communities.

The Outreach Manager will deeply engage citizens across the state with a particular focus on empowering the next generation of thought leaders through internships and fellowships, a new digital marketing and civic engagement initiative, events, case competitions and hack-a-thons.

In addition to direct engagement, the Outreach Manager is responsible for ensuring clear, professional and effective communications for PioneerLegal and other Pioneer activities.

To be successful, the Outreach Manager must be a proactive and relationship-focused person capable of seizing opportunities to build new relationships, foster partnerships, and connect disparate peoples and ideas.

This is a full-time role ideally based in Pioneer’s Boston, MA office. Candidates located in the greater Boston area, who are able to work from the office 1-2 days per week will also be considered. Limited travel to attend community events and visit local colleges is expected.

Communications: This position’s responsibilities in support of PioneerLegal will consist of delivering energetic, strategic, and engaging communications and activities, including organic and paid digital and traditional media marketing, email marketing, growing contacts, reporting on campaign performance, managing outside contractors and interns for video production and other tasks, coordinating with the communications and development teams, conducting rapid response outreach with regard to relevant policy changes and news events.

Community Engagement: The Outreach Manager will work to build, develop, and strengthen meaningful relationships with Massachusettsans who may have an interest in Pioneer’s work. This may include attending community events, hosting listening tours across the state, running professionally-facilitated focus groups, and conducting large-scale polling. Opportunities to host one-on-one meetings with individuals and organize community service events may also arise. 

Youth engagement: Responsibilities in support of youth outreach include deeply engaging the next generation of thought leaders through (a) internships and fellowships, (b) a new digital marketing and civic engagement initiative, and (c) events, case competitions, and hack-a-thons. The position will expand Pioneer’s current internship program, managing recruitment, onboarding, educational programming, and suggesting programmatic improvement. The position will also be responsible for organizing on-campus or virtual programming that engages students in public policy discussions. The initiative aims to build a network of young professionals who learn and value the importance of data and professionalism in policy debates, and develop the all-important civic skill of respectful debate.

Preferred Skills/Background 

  • 1 year of relevant experience, ideally with video editing or production
  • Highly organized, entrepreneurial, and self-starter attitude
  • Flexibility to attend events outside of typical business hours
  • Ability to build relationships and trust with diverse groups of people
  • Knowledge of social media platforms
  • Research ability (e.g., identification of venues, community events, and opportunities to collaborate)
  • Ability to develop communications strategy and execute on that strategy
  • Alignment with Pioneer’s mission, and ability to connect it to real life stories
  • Familiarity with the law and legislative process preferred

Salary & Benefits

  • Salary range: $65-80K
  • Significant flextime time to be used for vacation, personal, or sick time
