For decades, Massachusetts has had among the highest healthcare prices in the nation. This issue has vexed policy makers and made health care very expensive in the Commonwealth.

The Hospital Relative Commercial Price Tracker and the Hospital Commercial Revenue Tracker  shown in these applications demonstrate that certain major hospitals and hospital systems dominate the market in terms of high relative commercial prices and commercial revenue.

The Trackers focus on “commercial prices” and “commercial revenue” because that data reflects the payments that  private employers, small businesses, individuals and families pay hospitals in Massachusetts for healthcare services.  The non-commercial side of revenue and prices are from payments made by public entities, such as, Medicare and Medicaid.
