Other Ways to Give

Many employers match gifts to charitable institutions such as Pioneer Institute.  Corporate matching gift programs are a great way to increase the value of your gift.

Gifts of appreciated stock, bonds and mutual funds may allow donors to avoid a capital gains tax in addition to receiving a charitable income tax deduction for the fair market value of the stock.  Always be sure to consult a tax professional before giving securities. Many of our events are funded through sponsorships, giving individuals, corporations and foundations promotional opportunities to a highly targeted audience.  For more information on individual and corporate sponsorship opportunities contact our Advancement Office.

Corporate members will receive quarterly newsletters, invitations to exclusive member events for up to five individuals per event at no additional charge, networking opportunities with the state policy community and prominent business leaders, special recognition in our Annual Report, and a table at our annual Lovett C. Peters Lecture.  The fee for Annual Corporate membership is $5,000.


The Peters Legacy Society was established to recognize the contributions of the late Lovett C. “Pete” Peters and R. Kingman “King” Webster, who were transformative Pioneer Institute benefactors for almost two decades. Both King and Pete were deeply devoted to ensuring educational excellence and opportunity for all schoolchildren, regardless of family background or zip code. As we continue to advance the Peters Legacy Society, please consider joining the Peters and Webster families by including Pioneer in your estate plans.

Pioneer Institute has a unique mission in promoting a better state.  We offer the opportunity to give a gift in honor, or in memory, of an individual who shares our passion for what Massachusetts can and should be.  Depending on the size of the gift, we would consider a naming opportunity for one of our Senior Fellowships.  After consulting with our Advancement Office on the best purpose for the gift, Pioneer institute will inform the honoree, or family of the deceased, of the gift and will provide an acknowledgement letter to the donor.  Both the honoree and the donor will be recognized in our Annual Report.

If you would like to donate personal property or in-kind services (host an event at your home of club) to Pioneer Institute, please contact our Advancement Office. Some gifts require appraisal or advance approval in order to be accepted.


Planned gifts are gifts that allow individuals to financially support Pioneer Institute through trusts, annuites, insurance policies, or bequests.  Certain planned gifts, such charitable remainder trusts, can provide financial advantages during one’s lifetime. This is an excellent way to help secure the future of Pioneer while receiving personal financial benefits.

With planned gifts, individual circumstances as well as tax and estate planning will vary, please consult your attorney or estate specialist.  If you have any general questions about Planned Giving at Pioneer Institute, or have already included Pioneer in your estate plans, please contact our Advancement Office.

Next to annual giving, a long-standing vehicle for philanthropy is a bequest in a will or revocable (living) trust. A bequest makes it possible for you to make your wishes known today without relinquishing needed assets during your lifetime. Bequests can transfer a specific asset or give a percent of the estate after costs and taxes.

Naming Pioneer as a primary or contingent beneficiary of a retirement plan (e.g. IRA, SEP, 401(k), 403(b), ESOP, etc.) may enable you to make a larger gift than you anticipated because income and estate taxes are not imposed when plan assets are distributed to the Institute. Your retirement account’s plan administrator (the company that manages the account) can help you designate Pioneer as a primary or contingent beneficiary on the plan’s beneficiary form.

Living Trusts, Life Income Gifts, Retained Life Estate in Property are other ways to defer gifts to Pioneer Institute. Please consult your attorney or estate specialist.  Pioneer would be pleased to assist you in any way possible.
