Amie O’Hearn, Director of Communications and Media Relations
Amie brings more than two decades of public relations, media strategy, and writing experience to her work at Pioneer Institute. People are her wheelhouse; she loves to help them identify the stories that connect communities through universal narratives.
Prior to joining Pioneer Institute, she was Managing Director at Slowey McManus Communications, where she oversaw the agency’s media strategy and some of the firm’s most high-profile accounts. There, she also successfully led teams of account managers and media strategists.
Amie has worked across a variety of sectors including healthcare, insurance, energy, and state government. She served as a spokeswoman for Attorney General Martha Coakley’s Office where she executed several large press announcements including the DOMA challenge, the landmark Massachusetts vs. EPA challenge and the office’s foreclosure crisis work. As the Director of Communications for the Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation, she oversaw high-profile public relations campaigns, including the Health Care Consumer Empowerment Campaign and the response to several high-profile data privacy breaches.
Amie also served as the media lead for National Grid in Massachusetts where she primarily focused on legislative messaging, community outreach and crisis communications.
Her freelance work is diverse, including opportunities to work as a content strategist on the Mass General Hospital website redesign. Her bylines have appeared in Glide Magazine, Sound of Boston, Dig Boston and Hello Giggles.
She earned a bachelor’s degree in Communications Studies from Suffolk University.
