Obamacare superstar sales team goes missing

Here’s yet more evidence that, in the year since Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid presided over the ramming of Obamacare through Congress, the dust has yet to settle – the Democratic superstars who were supposed to be trumpeting its virtues are in hiding.

Jennifer Haberkorn has a piece on Politico noting that the Health Information Campaign, launched with great fanfare last June, is all but defunct.

Wal-Mart Watch founder Andrew Grossman unveiled the Health Information Campaign with great fanfare last June. Tom Daschle and Ted Kennedy’s widow, Vicki, were expected to lead the effort. They’d have help from former White House Communications Director Anita Dunn. They’d have an office in Washington with 10 or 15 operatives backing the Affordable Care Act and those who supported it.

And they’d have money to spend: Grossman hoped for $25 million a year for five years.

But nine months later, the Health Information Campaign has all but disappeared. Its website hasn’t been updated since the end of last year. Its executive director and communications director are gone. There’s no sign that it has any money. And neither Daschle nor Dunn will return calls asking about it.

And Haberkorn tried in vain to get Grossman to comment on the record. Her story also cites a Kaiser Health Tracking poll released Friday, noting that support for Obamacare is dropping – 46 percent of the public opposes it, up from 40 percent a year ago. Only 42 percent support it, down from 46 percent a year ago.

Of course the debate, featuring statistics, demographics and expert opinions, will continue, as it should.

But this ought to fall in the category of, “watch what they do, not what they say.” What does it tell you about a “big (expletive) deal” piece of legislation, in the words of our peerless Vice President Joe Biden, when those who were going to get to spend $125 million over the next five years to defend it are laying low – very low?

As one commenter said, “Remember when you were a kid and you did something wrong? What did you do? You hid…”

It may not be safe to come out for quite a while.
