In Pioneer’s ongoing series of blogs on curricular resources for parents, families, and teachers during COVID-19, this one focuses on: Celebrating the 400th Anniversary of the Mayflower’s voyage.
“The compact which they signed was an event of the greatest importance. It was the foundation of liberty based on law and order, and that tradition has been steadily upheld. They drew up a form of government which has been designated as the first real constitution of modern times,” then-Massachusetts Governor Calvin Coolidge proclaimed in fall 1920, at the 300th anniversary of the Mayflower’s landing. The Bay State’s sacred connection as the site of the landing place of the Mayflower and the First Thanksgiving (fall, 1621) are events all American schoolchildren should know by heart. This is especially important as the Mayflower’s journey celebrates its 400th anniversary. To that end, we’re offering a variety of resources to help parents, teachers, and schoolchildren, including:
